Hospital Moinhos de Vento (RS) investe em tecnologia pioneira para diagnósticos cardíacos

Hospital Moinhos de Vento, in Porto Alegre (RS), recently acquired a device that is the first of its kind in the South region. With an investment of around R$3.7 million, the CZT D-SPECT Cardio from Spectrum Dynamics is one of the most advanced imaging diagnostic equipment that helps detect cardiovascular diseases.

The device uses CZT (cadmium zinc telluride) crystal technology to perform high-precision and fast exams. The equipment is unique in the region due to its modern design, which allows exams to be performed with the patient seated, and the use of state-of-the-art software, which incorporates artificial intelligence to assist in the interpretation of images and technology to assess the heart’s microcirculation.

The open design of the equipment provides comfort and accessibility. Patients with claustrophobia can undergo the procedure while seated without the need for sedatives, and its capacity to support up to 200 kilos ensures that obese people can be diagnosed safely. In addition, the equipment also offers faster exams, with an average duration of just three minutes, as well as less radiation exposure for the patient.

In addition to performing myocardial scintigraphy, which conventionally assesses coronary circulation and identifies barriers to blood flow to the heart, advanced technology allows for the assessment of coronary flow in the heart’s small vessels, called microcirculation, which, when malfunctioning, can cause angina even with normal coronary arteries. “The ability to assess microcirculation increases the diagnostic accuracy of the causes of chest pain in an unprecedented way in the southern region of Brazil,” highlights Gabriel Grossman, head of the Nuclear Medicine Service at Hospital Moinhos de Vento.

Another unique feature of the equipment is its integrated Artificial Intelligence, which enables faster analyses and assertive diagnoses, assisting in the interpretation of images and offering support for more effective clinical decisions. “With this equipment, the Nuclear Medicine Service at Hospital Moinhos de Vento reaffirms its commitment to excellence in care and as a reference in innovation and medical technology,” concludes Grossman.

Investments in technology

Hospital Moinhos de Vento has one of the most diverse robotic parks in Latin America, with six robots dedicated to surgical procedures. Since the creation of the Robotic Surgery Center in 2018, more than 3,000 surgeries have been performed using this technology, covering specialties such as Urology, General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Coloproctology, Gynecology and Neurology.

Furthermore, in 2024 alone, the institution invested more than R$7 million in renewing its imaging equipment. The equipment serves the outpatient, emergency and inpatient sectors, benefiting between 5,000 and 6,000 patients per month, depending on the average
